One of the most frustrating parts of the health and fitness industry is how many myths are out there.

These myths make people believe they can easily lose weight, get stronger, get a six-pack, and look great in a bikini. The truth is most of these myths are coming from people that are just wanting you to buy their product.

Let me touch on a few…

Myth 1:
The new __________ diet is the best diet plan out there because it will help you lose weight and get you into the best shape of your life! All you have to do is purchase and the fat will fall off!

 Busted:
The truth is diets do work. When people don’t do the diet, then they don’t work. To lose weight and become lean most people need a calorie deficit. This means you have to burn more calories in a day than you eat.

There are millions of diets out there. We recommend a whole food, no sugar/no processed food diets.

These type of meal plans are really a lifestyle, new way of eating type of diets that can make a huge difference in your life.

1.     Detoxing the body and reduce inflammation
2.     Lower significant body fat
3.     Eating Real food- Vegetables, fruits, lean meats, healthy fats

We often hesitate to mention one diet over another but do strongly recommend two rules that if followed will help you lose weight.

1. Whole foods only.

Unprocessed, whole food that has not been adulterated, changed, refined, vitamin fortified, bleached, additional sugar, fructose, corn syrup, sucrose, etc.

2. Remove all simple refined sugars

Removing any sugars that are not found naturally in whole foods. Referenced Dr. Oz.com

Myth:
Spending hours on cardio equipment is the best way to lose fat.

Busted:
If you love the treadmill or elliptical great! Continue to use it, but please be open to different forms of exercise. Studies have proven that resistance training and interval training are more effective for fat loss, in less time than steady state cardio for an extended period of time.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t have hours upon hours of my day available for exercise. I can show you how to burn the same number of calories in a 20-minute workout full of variety, compared to a 60-minute workout on an elliptical.

Interval training is a great way to achieve this.

Interested in trying a great workout with resistance and variety. Then keep it really simple at first. You can even do interval walking for 20min a day, with those great new apps and watches to monitor your heart rate. (check with your doctor first)

The number #1 way to lose weight is with dietary changes. The weight comes on slowly from our daily intake of high-calorie foods, with low nutritional value.

It is very difficult to wrap our minds around this concept because looks are deceiving. We are surrounded by an abundance of food. But, a majority of the food we eat is processed, mass produced to provide us with high satisfaction, ease of use, and a desire to consume again. It is part of the world we currently live in.

How do we break this process?

Step 1: Simply just start to become aware and conscious of what we are eating.

Step 2: Be open to educating yourself on whole food, back to basics meals and at home food preparation.

Step 3: Implement, one meal at a time. Maybe it is prepping your lunch daily, or simply making your own coffee at home so you don’t swing by the drive-through menu of high-calorie coffee drinks every morning.

We are always here to help. Please reach out if you need any assistance, help, or guidance.
